Guide 2026

Twitch donations with your own tip page

Twitch has no button that sends money straight to a streamer. Bits and subs run through Twitch, which keeps a share and only pays out to Affiliates and Partners. A tip page fills that gap: viewers pick any amount, pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and the alert fires in OBS while the money lands on your own Stripe account. This page shows what each route leaves you; our step-by-step guide covers the setup click by click.

Take Twitch tips in four steps

  1. Create your free page on donolink.us and connect Stripe for US payouts.
  2. Add a Tip panel with your link and a !tip chat command.
  3. Connect Twitch, add the alerts to OBS and fire a test alert.
  4. Mention your link when you thank a supporter or start a goal.

Bits, subs or a tip: what reaches you

Twitch pays you 1 cent per Bit, and viewers buy Bits from Twitch at Twitch's prices, so roughly 71% of what a viewer spends on Bits reaches you. That is an estimate: Twitch publishes no fixed rate. A Tier 1 sub costs $5.99 on the web; at the standard 50/50 split of the net revenue you get less than $3 per sub, and less than $4.20 at 70/30 in the Plus Program.

A tip through your own page works differently: the viewer picks the amount and the payment is created on your connected Stripe account. On a $10 card tip, Stripe takes $0.59 and DonoLink $0.35, so $9.06 reaches you. Bits and subs come with emotes, badges and chat moments that tips do not replace, so most channels offer all three.

A tip jar your viewers will actually use

Viewers pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, plus Amazon Pay once Stripe has activated it for your account. PayPal is coming soon, and Venmo is not offered.

Most viewers tip from their phone while they watch, where Apple Pay and Google Pay turn a tip into one tap with no card number to type. There is no account to create. You set the suggested amounts; the minimum tip is $1.00.

Set up donations on your channel

Setting up takes one evening. Create your page on donolink.us, connect Stripe for US payouts, add a Tip panel under your player with your link as the image link, add a !tip command to your chat bot and put the alerts into OBS. The step-by-step guide below walks through every click, including the panel image size Twitch accepts.

Alerts next to your Twitch events

Connect your Twitch channel and follows, subs, gifted subs, raids and Bits join your tips in one alert queue, each with its own style. A tip can play an image, GIF or video with sound and text-to-speech. Twitch's built-in goals count follows, subs and Bits but not tips, so use the DonoLink goal bar to show what tips are building toward.

For viewers: how to donate on Twitch

Viewers open the tip link in your panels or chat, check that the page shows your name and photo, choose an amount, add a message and pay. They need no DonoLink account, and Bits and subs stay separate purchases inside Twitch.

Twitch rules, taxes and honest habits

Twitch allows external tip links in channel panels, and most streamers run one next to Bits and subs. Say what tips are for and never promise rewards you cannot deliver. A tip is a voluntary payment to you, not a charitable donation, so it is not tax-deductible for the viewer. For you it is income: Stripe sends a Form 1099-K once you pass $20,000 and 200 transactions in a year, and our tax guide covers the rest.
